It’s hard to imagine that anyone would be capable of neglecting or inflicting violence on a child. Yet, there are 3 million reports of child abuse made in the US every year, and experts believe that, because of all the cases that are not reported, the number is three times that. Without intervention, these children never recover and wind up depressed, addicted to drugs and alcohol or worse. One third of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children.


There are four main types of child abuse: physical, sexual, emotional and neglect, with neglect accounting for approximately 60% of all cases. Nearly 80% of the abusers are parents of the victim. So, how do we get this under control? It comes down to supporting programs and organizations that educate and intervene, like emergency shelters, support groups, hotlines and in-home services. Your help can make a difference!
