"Our investors and donors love these bracelets, as they are a unique reminder of our shared interest in eliminating hunger."
— Karen Newman, Director Corporate Philanthropy, The Hunger Project
In essence, hunger is the most extreme form of poverty, where people cannot take care of their
most basic need…food. Besides undernourishment, it can cause stunted growth, weakness and increased chances of illness. More than 840 million people in the world suffer from malnourishment and approximately 799 million of these people live in developing countries. Of that total, more than 153 million victims are children under the age of 5. Couple this with the fact that food prices are soaring worldwide and we have a serious crisis.
Today, it can still cost as little 28 cents to provide a nutritious meal for a hungry child. But, in addition to providing this emergency food, as well as healthcare, we also need to help improve the economies of these impoverished countries, so they can work towards increasing their internal food supply. This means providing the tools and training for farming and other small businesses. Your help can make a difference!
