Jon Gosselin Returns Family Dogs? What a #$%&!!

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Jon Gosselin

Jon Gosselin is reportedly returning the family’s German Shepherds back to the breeders. He says it’s because Kate doesn’t take care of them while he’s away.

He’s obviously a real dog person and a caring guy. Returning the family pets? What?? Did he buy them a Macy’s or Nordstrom? I hope he remembered to keep the receipt.

I love German Shepherds. They’re my favorite dogs (more like super dogs). We had a Shepherd named Charlie, who lived to be 12. The difference between Gosselin and us, is that ours was a rescue from a puppy mill and we never once thought of getting rid of her and in fact, we want another one.

What a schmuck!!

Please help us support the fight against animal cruelty by purchasing any of the I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty products. We give half of everything you buy to Best Friends Animal Society.

John Mayer’s Twitter Bet Benefits Animal Rescue Shelters

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

John Mayer for Animal RescueJohn Mayer bet TMZ $25,000, to the charity of their choice, that they could not find the mug shot from his arrest in 2001.John Mayer used Twitter this week to help a good cause and poke fun at himself.

The singer was responding to the arrest of Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump for driving without a license, an offense that Mayer was arrested for in 2001.

Mayer bet TMZ that they could not locate his mug shot from his 2001 arrest, offering $25,000 towards a charity of their choice.

The Smoking Gun beat out TMZ and published the mug shot on their Web site, so Mayer split the $25,000 reward and wrote two checks for $12,500 to Pet Orphans of Southern California and Ace of Hearts.

Pet Orphans of Southern California and Ace of Hearts are adoption organizations for rescue dogs in California.

TMZ’s Harvey Levin praised Mayer for being “awesome” and wrote on Twitter, “These two animal charities are really hurting ‘cause of the economy. [Mayer] has just saved a bunch of lives.”

Way to go Rachel Ray!

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Rachel Ray and dogThis is just a great story from The Miami Herald about what Rachel Ray is doing to help the doggies. We had to share!

Rachael Ray is looking for 64 charities to compete in a $200,000 contest to find the most deserving pet cause in the country. Using basketball’s March Madness format, Mutt Madness will start with 64 contenders that will be whittled down by Ray and a panel of pet lovers. Chosen from entries submitted at Mutt Madness by Sept. 30, each of the 64 will get $1,000. Winners of the next several rounds, chosen by online votes, will get another $1,000. The final voting showdown is worth $25,000 for second place and $50,000 for the winner. The champ will be announced in early December.

Ray, an Emmy-award winning talk show host and the star of Food Network’s 30 Minute Meals, joined forces last year with the Ainsworth Pet Nutrition company to develop a line of dog food and treats called Rachael Ray Nutrish.

Everything she gets from the sale of dog food goes to Rachael’s Rescue (http://www.rachaelray.com/pets/rescue.php), an organization dedicated to helping at-risk animals through adoption, medical care, education, training and outreach.

The rescue raised $400,000 last year, but Ray wanted to help more people and animals. “We thought Mutt Madness would be a fun and fair way to spread the love and the money,” she said by telephone.

Ray’s first dog, a pit bull named Boo, was her inspiration for the rescue and the contest, she said. “She changed my life in every good way possible.”

Boo died a few years ago, but Ray said she had plenty of love left for Isaboo, who appears with her in Nutrish commercials.

“Pit bulls are the perfect example of dogs that are tortured and abused,” she said. “I just don’t see how everybody can’t be doing something for animal rescue. It’s heartbreaking to see the innocents so mistreated.”

Nick Jonas Lobbies for Diabetes Research

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

nick_jonasThe youngest Jonas brother spent Tuesday lobbying Washington’s power brokers on behalf of diabetes research — starting with the big guy, President Barack Obama.

Clad in a white oxford shirt (no tie) and a gray blazer with the sleeves pushed up, Nick Jonas, 16, stopped by the White House for a photo with the president and children who are living with diabetes.

It was his second time at the White House this year. He and brothers Joe and Kevin hung out there with Obama’s daughters, Malia and Sasha, on the night of Obama’s inauguration.

After the White House, Jonas headed off to Capitol Hill for a private meeting at the office of Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.

The teen idol and the senator made small talk about music while photographers snapped their pictures. Roughly a dozen Capitol Hill interns waited quietly across the hall from Lautenberg’s office for a glimpse of Jonas — no loud outbursts or attempts to sneak around security.

“I know some people can become star-struck and lose sight of what they’re here for, but if Nick Jonas makes juvenile diabetes a cause that people are more aware of, it’s worth it,” said Ashley Woolos, an American University student and intern in the office of Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass. “A younger face might bring younger fans and the fact that juvenile diabetes is not just an older persons’ disease.”

Nick Jonas publicly revealed that he has Type 1 diabetes while performing at a Diabetes Research Institute fundraiser in 2007. He is scheduled to testify on Wednesday before a Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing on federal funding for diabetes research. Other witnesses include boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and actress Mary Tyler Moore.

The Jonas Bothers created the Change for the Children Foundation, which donates money to charities benefiting children who are disadvantaged or ill. They released their fourth CD, “Lines, Vines, and Trying Times,” last week.

PETA Sends Obama Humane Fly Catcher

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

obama
PETA has a few words for President Obama: Brush, don’t kill.

After the President very publically swatted and then killed a fly during an interview with CNBC, the outspoken animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said they wished Obama had served a better example.

“We support compassion for the even the smallest animals,” says Bruce Friedrich, VP for Policy at PETA. “We support giving insects the benefit of the doubt.”

Friedrich says PETA supports “brushing flies away rather than killing them” and was disappointed that the President had gone ahead and squashed the pesky fly.

This afternoon PETA sent a Katcha Bug, a device which traps bugs and allows their safe release back into nature to the White House.

PETA hopes the President will use the catcher but has no far not received communication back from the White House, although they did not ask for specific correspondence.

Friedrich admits that despite his fly-swatting ways, the President has been a champion for animal rights in the past. PETA claims to be pleased by Obama’s denouncement of factory farming, Canadian seal hunting andMichelle Obama’s stance against wearing fur.

Prince Charles says delay on rainforests will have catastrophic consequences

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

prince-charles011Catastrophic climate change cannot be avoided unless the world’s tropical forests are saved, Prince Charles told 20 Nobel prizewinners, including Energy Secretary Steven Chu today.

In a passionate speech to the physics, chemistry, peace and literature laureates, Charles appealed to decision-makers to put a monetary value on forests and to act fast.

“The longer we all argue about minutiae and statistics, the more rainforest disappears. Solving climate change is the precondition to ensuring security and without adequately addressing tropical deforestation we cannot have an answer to climate change. It is that simple; saving the rainforests is not an option, it is an absolute necessity,” he said. Read more…
