5th Grade Girl Sells I’m Tired of… Bracelets at School

Monday, April 27th, 2009

kimmyThis is one of those wonderful stories that I just had to share. I gave my friend’s daughter an “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelet. She was crazy about it, wore it to school and started telling all her friends what our campaign was about. She then decided to sell the bracelets for us at her elementary school. I am so pleased to report that she actually sold 18 bracelets. This has now morphed into a new business venture she’s going to start, which involves walking and babysitting neighborhood dogs. She plans to donate half the money she makes to Best Friends Animal Society, our charity beneficiary for the animal cruelty bracelet. Way to go Kimmy!

I’m Tired of Discrimination and War are Coming…

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

We need your help! We want to add two new bracelets: I’m Tired of Discrimination and I’m Tired of War, but we’re having a difficult time coming up with great charities/non profits to receive the donations for these important causes.

Other than the ACLU, does anyone know of a great organization that works to fight against all or most forms of discrimination? Or, if not that, an organization that you really think is a great fit.

Okay, now give us something really worthwhile that could be the beneficiary of the I’m Tired of War bracelet?

We really appreciate your help! We know there are some wonderful organizations out there doing great things, but this time we seem to be having a tough time finding them… Let’s hear those comments!!

Thank you!
Dan

I’M WRITING FOR HUFFINGTON POST!

Friday, January 30th, 2009

buzz_lightyearMy very first blog post for the Huffington Post went up today and I couldn’t be more honored and excited. We were asked to contribute a regular blog for their Giving Life section on ITo’s mission, campaign and our causes. This first one is a fun read that talks about how Dan and I went from owning a large successful computer company to philanthropy. It’s called “From Computers to Charity…and Beyond!” I particularly love the Buzz Lightyear photo they chose to go with it.

Check it out, comment and become a fan! That’s how we’ll keep spreading the word big time!

Party Favors…

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

party_favorsI was reading my CoffeyTalk newsletter this morning, in which Lissa Coffey was talking about a new trend in kids parties, whether it’s birthdays, Bar mitzvahs, Bat mitzvahs or just for fun. She said that “Kids are now choosing to forego presents for themselves in lieu of contributions to their favorite charities.” Surprising, but very cool. She goes on to say that the trend has a lot to do with the internet and television, which are exposing young people much more to the world’s causes and making them more socially conscious.

It made me think… We know that ITo bracelets make great gifts, but at only $10, they’d also make great party favors, whether it’s a child’s, teenager’s, young adult’s or adult’s party! You could throw a theme party, for example, where everything is eco friendly and give attendees “I’m Tired of Global Warming” bracelets as parting gifts. Or, pick something else that you think many could get behind, like “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty.” (Can you feel my excitement building at this revelation?!) Imagine how good it would make your guests feel to walk away with a cool looking party favor that they understand is doing good for the world, knowing that you donated half the cost to support great causes. And, you’d certainly be helping us spread the word, which is so important, by exposing more people to our campaign.

Love it when those creative juices get flowing!

On PerezHilton.com, you will find a section called A Worthwhile Cause. Here, Perez showcases some great charities where his readers can go to make donations. He has showcased charities ranging from World Hunger to Cancer to Animal Rights and Lupus. We are all thankful that amongst all the Hollywood gossip, Perez is supporting charities and raising awareness about some awesome causes! Who knew?!

CHARITABLE DONATIONS ARE A CASUALTY OF THE STRUGGLING ECONOMY

Monday, January 12th, 2009

donate_can1Warning: I’m going to get on my soapbox a little…

There is no question that charitable donations have been and will continue to be impacted by our suffering economy. According to “Newsweek” magazine, “philanthropy is tethered directly to the health of the overall economy…” and “if the past is any guide, it’s likely to be a lean year for nonprofits.” The article goes on to say that even the Salvation Army’s donations of clothing and furniture have dropped by more than 20%. So, not only are we not able to donate as indiabetes_microscope1 the past, but, with all the talk of “shopping your own closet” to save money, we are also holding onto our belongings. This is obviously not what any of us want to hear. We all want the cure for cancer and diabetes or the solution to animal cruelty and world hunger.

So, what does this mean for ITo’s effort? It means that while you may not be able to write those larger checks right now for charity, you can still do your part in $5 increments and wear a fashionable world_hunger_31eco friendly bracelet that shows you care. If you think about it, ITo is truly the perfect model for all of us who want to make a difference, but don’t have as much to go around after we pay our own expenses, like groceries and rent.

For our campaign to succeed, though, we need it to snowball to tens of thousands, then millions of people, each buying these inexpensive bracelets, each donating $5 with every bracelet they buy and each telling everyone they know about ITo. Together, we can really make a difference and create something amazing!
