This is a great video about an organization, called Pilots N Paws, a group of volunteer pilots, who rescue dogs about to be euthanized from shelters and fly them to new homes. To date, they’ve saved more than 2,000 animals and this week, they are trying to save another 5,000. Definitely worth the watch!

The rescue organization, who submitted Bouchard for our SMILE2 contest, posted this on their blog and we wanted to share it:
We entered a Bouchard smiling picture to the “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” organization. They sent us an email today, and Bouchard’s picture was one of the selected ones in their youtube video.
This is what Bouchard looked like 
the day I rescued him from a shelter in central Florida the week of Thanksgiving in 2003. I wasn’t expecting this. No one at the shelter mentioned how emaciated he was, and the Dobie rescue transport volunteer who picked him up even asked, “Are you sure this is the right dog?”
Can you believe it? The shelter neutered him i
n this condition. After all he went through, I cannot believe he made it through that. When I got him, there were physical issues that took some time to get through, and once that was taken care of, he had some personality conflicts that we also had to work through. He was rejected by two homes after a live-in period didn’t work out.
The second adoptive home I left him at, well, as the front door shut, I heard him body slam himself against it. That was hard to walk away from. But he has a bit of piss and vinegar in him, so it didn’t take long for him to be returned. He has made a fine place for himself at Fort Doberdale, is a special case and always has a place in my heart. Read more…

Here’s a very cool website we discovered in our animal rights travels. Called Dogtime, it’s a great place for anything and everything to do with dogs — a search engine that shows you adoptable dogs and local pet businesses in your area and a virtual cornucopia of information, articles and tips on all things dogs. You can learn everything you need to know from the Dogtime experts about specific breeds, training techniques, including quizes to guage how you’re doing and pet insurance. There are special offers, videos, a forum and so much more. One of our favorite parts, though is the online matchmaking questionnaire that then matches you with your perfect type of dog.
We find this website to be very comprehensive with great information and services, not to mention that it’s well done, appealing and easy to navigate. And, we’re told they’ve got big plans for more great doggy info and services to come! Check them out at www.dogtime.com.

We’re looking for “smiling” dog and cat superstars! Hopefully, you’ve all seen our first SMILE video. If you haven’t, you must click here to watch it! It’s a fun 60-second show of dogs and cats smiling. Beyond our wildest expectations, it went viral and has now been viewed more than 100,000 times! Who knew?!
So, what do you do when your first “film” is a huge hit? You make the sequel, of course! But, this time, we’re asking you to submit photos of your precious pups or kooky kitties smiling or mugging it up for the camera. It seems that our “Smile” slide show is bringing smiles to a whole lot of faces out there. We’re very excited to see it being passed around by so many of you to your friends, co-workers and relatives. And, it’s bringing a lot of attention to and orders for our “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelets, raising money for Best Friends Animal Society.
What’s also very fun is that people are starting to submit their own “Smile” photos to us. Here’s a great one, submitted by Lucy from Lutz, Florida. This time, it’s not a dog or cat, but rather, Casper, the horse. What a smile on this guy! Lucy wants everyone to know that horses are suffering as much as dogs and cats, especially in this down economy. They’re being mistreated and abandoned, largely because they are more expensive to keep. Thanks, Lucy, for the wonderful photo, and drawing attention to yet another sad animal cruelty issue.

A friend of mine sent this funny dog video to me this morning and I think I’ve watched it 10 times already. It is just hysterical and so cute, except for a little unfortunate ending. Meet Bailey. Bailey belongs to Ashley of Cocoa, Florida, who is a fan of our “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelet. Ashley sent Bailey’s photo to us because she really wanted him to be in our “Smile” video. If you haven’t seen it, “Smile” is a cute 6o-second show, that we put together with the help of Best Friends Animal Society, that features dogs and cats “smiling.” I promise it will bring a smile to your face or even make you laugh out loud. Unfortunately, the show is finished and can’t be changed, but Bailey’s smile was so cute that we wanted to share it with you.
Ashley tells us that “his big old teeth are too big for his mouth, so we just push his lips up and they stay there.” Keep smiling Bailey!
