It’s party time for Halle and Best Friends

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Halle the Vicktory dogThe first Vicktory dog is being adopted! Woohoo! Sound the bells, toss the confetti! Halle the Vicktory dog proves once and for all that not only does every dog deserve a second chance, but she can take that chance and run with it to a happy ending of epic proportions. Her life now is totally backwards and opposite in every possible way from her days before as part of Michael Vick’s dogfighting ring. Good for her!

5th Grade Girl Sells I’m Tired of… Bracelets at School

Monday, April 27th, 2009

kimmyThis is one of those wonderful stories that I just had to share. I gave my friend’s daughter an “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelet. She was crazy about it, wore it to school and started telling all her friends what our campaign was about. She then decided to sell the bracelets for us at her elementary school. I am so pleased to report that she actually sold 18 bracelets. This has now morphed into a new business venture she’s going to start, which involves walking and babysitting neighborhood dogs. She plans to donate half the money she makes to Best Friends Animal Society, our charity beneficiary for the animal cruelty bracelet. Way to go Kimmy!

“I’M TIRED OF…” PROVIDES $2,500 TO BEST FRIENDS FOR EMERGENCY RESCUE OF 200 DOGS

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

best_friends_1The Department of Agriculture in Missouri called in Best Friends Animal Society to assist in rescuing more than 200 dogs this week from an unlicensed breeding farm. When state officials had arrived to take over custody of the dogs, the owner of the facility had set fire to it and began shooting at anyone who attempted to enter, including firefighters.

To bring a happy ending to this brutal situation, Best Friends put out an immediate plea for donations to fund the operation. Dan and I knew we wanted to do something to help. We discussed options and quickly came forward with $2,500, a large percentage of what they were asking for, to help them rescue these poor “babies” from this disgusting man.

It took three days for a Best Friends six-person team to finish its work in helping round up the dogs, who were dispersed across 100 partially fenced acres. From what we can tell, it was a grueling, often heart-wrenching effort. best_friends_21All of these doggies had to be captured, identified, tagged and then taken to new shelters and veterinary hospitals for those who were sick or injured. And, of course, the team had to win over the shy dogs who didn’t trust humans and round-up the escape artists.

It’s heroic efforts like these that help to make Best Friends such an incredible organization that we are proud to support with our “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelet. To read the entire story, click here.

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

As dog lovers and huge fans of National Geographic Channel’s “Dogtown,” you can probably imagine how excited Dan and I were when the cast got behind our “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelet. They’re all wearing them!

Not only that, but they recently wore them in a photo shoot for the show with some of the 22 “Vicktory” dogs they rescued and rehabilitated from Michael Vick’s abuse. Even the dogs are sporting cool “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” dog collars that we made especially for them. “Dogtown” takes place at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, our charity beneficiary for the “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelets. We wanted to share some of the great photos from the shoot.

Look for the cast to be wearing their bracelets on the show when the new season of “Dogtown” premiers in March.
